How would you describe the memorial and its ornamentation?
Rectangular stained glass window of one light with curved top and dedication at the foot. The window depicts an angel holding a ribbon with "Glory to God and on Earth Peace" looking at an armed figure below with a cloak and sword. Each side has a pilaster with an angel's head above and two angels below holding the dedicatory scroll. In the background is a rural scene with a group of angels blowing trumpets by side of a stream with rising sun. Family Memorial Window-In memory of Fred Cross The window shows a knight clad in plate armour, with hands on the hilt of his sword, being blessed by an angel. Above are the words “Glory to God and on earth, peace”, a summary of the words sung by a multitude of the heavenly host to the shepherds at the birth of Jesus. Underneath are the words” So he passed over, and all the trumpets sounded for him on the other side”, a quotation from Bunyan’s “Pilgrims Progress”, which records the crossing of the river of death by Mr. Valiant-for-Truth, bearing on his body the marks and scars he had suffered in battles for his Lord. He is about to be welcomed into the Holy City at the end of his pilgrimage. Fred Cross was the son of Mr. G. H. Cross, a member and office holder of Mill Road Church. He was a lance corporal and died at Mount Notre-Dame, France from wounds received in action on 22nd May, 1918 aged 22. The memorial was unveiled on 3rd January 1924 by Mrs. G.H. Cross, mother of Fred.
