Memorial Details
What type of memorial is it?
How would you describe the memorial and its ornamentation?
Three-panelled window by stained glass artist William Aikman. Contemporary sources describe the window as follows: "In the centre is a noble figure of a youthful crusader, who, having fought the good fight is shown in the act of sheathing his sword, indicating the completion of his earthly task. Attendant angels with outstretched hands hold over his head the crown of victory. In the two side lights are attendant angels, one holding the cross of faith and the other the crown of thorns ... At the base is the inscription. " Note: it has been thought that a free-standing three-panelled window in the church is this memorial, however it does not match the contemporary description quoted above. In view of this, it is likely that the memorial was lost when the original church building on the same site was demolished in 1984 to make way for the current building.
