Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. They felt this was most likely the Thomas who is also commemorated on IWM 2224, 2640, 2645, 2654 and possibly on both 2721 and 2670: he was a ring jobber at a mill and also a member of a troupe of acrobats, he enlisted in 1914 and his details are used here. However, they also wondered if it was the Tom Greenwood who was a weaver, enlisted in November 1915 and served with the Highland Light infantry. If so, he was a Lance Corporal who first undertook agricultural work in Scotland, was then in France where he suffered a gunshot wound and was in hospital in Boulogne in September 1917. If it is him, he died a year later on September 30th, presumably of another wound, and is commemorated on IWM 2224, 596, 2651, possibly 2654 and 2670 and is buried in Fins New British Military Cemetery on the Somme.
