Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was a married man, with a child, and worked as a policeman but he had served in the Boer War. h=He died ion hospital and this was the only Calderdale memorial he was found to have been named on. Both they and CWGC list him as a Sergeant unlike the memorial.
