Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was not mnarried and worked for qa firm of contractors before he enlisted on 4th August 1914. He was gassed as he retreated on Hill 60 and whilst this was the only Calderdale memorial they found him commemorated on, he is also named on the Menin Gate.
