Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra detail. An assistant teacher at St Joseph's School in Halifax, he enlisted in August 1914 and was wounded in September 1915 at Loos. he was ready to return to his unit but died whilst being operated on for appendicitis at Western Military Hospital. His younger brother Joseph was also killed a year later.
