Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was married, with two children, and worked in the cardroom of a mill before he enlisted in March 1915. He was wounded twice in a year and ultimately killed by shellfire. His younger brother, Arthur, who served in the same regiment and is also commemorated on this memorial, saw him killed and wrote to his widow before he too was killed a month later.
