Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was married, to Etta, and they had a child. He was an ex-Regular who had served in the Boer War and then became a shopkeeper. He re-enlisted in August 1914 and served as a Sergeant Instructor only to die suddenly in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. He is also commemorated on IWM 2130.
