Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He had been married twice, a Provincial Grand-Master of the Humility Lodge and working as a printer before the war. He had served in the Boer war as a concentration camp guard at Ladysmith and served 27 years as a Territorial, hence he both spoke at a recruiting meeting in August 1914 and was called up as a CSM. He is also commemorated on IWM 2639 (as he was a Boer War Veteran), 2224, 596, and 2670.
