Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was not married and worked as a warehouseman before he enlisted in 1914 into the Lancashire Fusiliers. Discharged with Varicose veins within a year, he re-enlisted into the Manchester Regiment in June 1915 and was killed as he bandaged a wounded man. He is also commemorated on IWM 2224.
