The son of the then Headmaster of Rishworth School where he was educated - the second such on this memorial, the other being Edward Kingsford, a WW2 casualty - he was a teacher before the war. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial as well as IWM 2627, 2631 and 2632.
