Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. Originally from Barrow, he was working in the card room of a mill before enlisting in February 1915. He was initially reported only as wounded having been seen on a stretcher. His younger brother, Matthew, is also commemorated on this memorial and, like his brother, on IWM 2620. Edwin is also named on the Thiepval Memorial.
