Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He had been a PC in Leeds, an attendant at an asylum and a twister in a mill before he enlisted in the first week of the war. He was in France from 1915 but died in the Peter Pan Sector at Passchendaele and is commemorated on both the Tyne Cot Memorial and IWM 2625.
