Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was originally from Wetherden in Suffolk and was married to Martha Berth and worked as a goods guard at Sowerby Bridge Railway Station before, as a Reservist, he was called up in August 1914. He was in France within 2 months but was soon hospitalised with 'Strain': he died a week after he returned to his unit the following spring. This was the only memorial in Calderdale that they found him commemorated on but he is on the Le Touret Memorial.
