Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. An apprentice butcher with the local Co-Op, he enlisted in August 1914 and was one of the many of his regiment killed on this day attacking the Schwaben Redoubt and, like them, is also commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
