Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. The brother of George, who is also named here, he worked as a spinner piecer at a mill before he enlisted in August 1914. He was initially discharged as unfit but re-enlisted in August 1915 only to become one of the many of the area and the regiment to be killed in the failed attack on the Schwaben Redoubt on 3/9/16. This was the only Calderdale memorial they found him named on.
