Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was a widower, with a daughter, and they were living with his parents in Mytholmroyd. He was a Maths Master at Ormskirk Grammar School before enlisting in August 1914 into the ranks of the Liverpool Pals. He was wounded whilst serving as a Sergeant, commissioned and finally killed on the Somme, hence he is also commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
