Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was not married, he played cricket and soccer, was a member of the Hebden Bridge male voice choir and worked as a weaver in a mill before he enlisted in May 1915. He served as a batman and went missing during a heavy barrage: he was identified from his identity tag. This was the only Calderdale memorial they found him commemorated on.
