Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was not married, was a member of the Hebden Bridge bowling club, assisted his 80-year-old mother in her role as treasurer of the Slack Baptist Cemetery Fund and had business in Manchester. He enlisted in June 1915, serving in Egypt and France - he was on sick leave with trench foot in November 1915 - before being killed at Ypres. This was the only Calderdale memorial they found him commemorated on, but he is named on the Tyne Cot memorial.
