Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was not married when he enlisted in 1916. He was reported to have died as a POW in Germany and was not found to be commemorated on any other Calderdale memorial that they researched although he is on the Cambrai Memorial as that is where he went missing, presumably captured. The York Record Office did receive notification of the death of a James Shaw Roberts which may have been of him.
