One of the aircrew of Wellington serial number LP 826 which (while on a training flight with 85 Operational Training Unit) crashed on Glassthorpe Hill on the outskirts of Harpole shortly before midnight on 24/9/1944.
Although the plaque describes Alan Wilton as the "Pilot", CWGC records his rank as Sergeant (Pilot), serial number 1587833.
