Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra detail and alternative forenames. He lived with his Grandmother, his Father living in Reigate, and worked for his Father's firm Hartley and Sugden. Like his Father, he was a territorial who was a Sergeant with the before being called up in August 1914 and commissioned the following year. He was gassed and his age was variously reported as 21 or 22.
