The College website (see references) provides the following additional information: 'Came up in 1902 to read Classics. BA 1905. Military Service: Chaplain 4th Cl attached 1/21st Battalion, London Regiment. (First Surrey Rifles). Killed 16 July 1917 whilst the unit was holding trenches gained during the Battle of Messines. During this time the Germans first used Mustard Gas. Awarded MC.'
