Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was a Territorial and so would have been called up at the outbreak of war. The press account reported he died a 'heroic' death and, like his brother Sydney who is also commemorated here, he was also commemorated on the now lost Todmorden Secondary School memorial. He is named on the Helles Memorial.
