Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was unmarried and a spiritualist who worked in a warehouse before he enlisted in August 1914. He was wounded once before he was killed and whilst this is the only Calderdale memorial they recorded him on, he is named on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial.
