Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler and CWGC provide the extra details. He is also commemorated on IWM 2657 and his biographical, service and death details as they found them are shown there. The latter memorial shows him serving with the RAMC which the press reports also suggested: however, he served in the Royal Marine Medical Unit. That the press (according to Hornshaw and Fowler) reported he died of dysentery in Cairo does not seem to explain why the CWGC show him also commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
