Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler could find no extra details other than that this appears to be the only Calderdale memorial he is named on. Malcolm Bull provides the facts that he was originally from Rochdale and was working as a schoolmaster when he enlisted in February 1916 into the Marines. He transferred to the Navy and served as a schoolmaster in October 1917. Bull says he died int eh conflict but it seems unlikely this was 'In action' given he weas both buried locally and was buried in March of 1919.
