Notes
The details above have been transcribed verbatim from the entry on the Roll under the name Thomas Henry Wright, but are known to be entirely inaccurate.
This 1994 version of the Roll of Honour wrongly records that Thomas Henry Wright had lived at Bishop's Road, and had died of wounds in hospital on 25/11/1914, serving as a Private in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. In fact, that address and the death details actually relate to a different Peterborough casualty named William Wright.
(The original 1921 version of the Roll of Honour correctly recorded that Thomas Henry Wright of Chapel Lane, Werrington was killed in action on 18/8/1916, serving in the 7th Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment. It also included an entry for William Wright of Bishop's Road, who it stated had died of wounds in 1914.
When the compiler of this 1994 version of the Roll copied across details from the original 1921 version, they unfortunately omitted William's name altogether, and incorrectly assigned his address/service/death details to Thomas.
(CWGC records that Private Thomas Henry Wright, regimental number TF/6033, died on 19/8/1916 serving in 1st/7th Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment. He is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial in France. Soldiers Died in the Great War records that Thomas Henry Wright was living in Werrington when he enlisted at Bury St Edmunds. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that he died on 19/8/1916, and that his sister Eliza was his legatee. On the 1911 census Thomas Henry Wright had been living in Werrington with his father William; on the 1901 census Thomas had been living in Werrington village with his parents William and Sophia. Thomas Henry Wright's birth in Werrington was registered in the Peterborough District in 1894.
The other WW1 casualty, William Wright of Bishop's Road, served as Private 10675 in the 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, and died on 27/9/1914. He is buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery at Wimille, France).
