Notes
The Roll lists his address as 103 Park Road. It misrecords him as being a Captain in the Hunts Cyclists when he died; he was actually serving as a Major in the Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry.

(CWGC records that Major John Douglas Barford Warwick died aged 23 on 10/3/1917 while serving in Huntingdon Cyclist Battalion attached to 1st/1st Bucks Battalion of the Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry, and is now buried in grave II.L.7 at Hem Farm Military Cemetery in France, having been reinterred after the War; he was originally buried in Achille British Cemetery. They record him as the son of Clara Edith Warwick of 103 Park Road, Peterborough and the late Harry James Warwick.
De Ruvigny records that James Warwick was born on 10/6/1894, the son of Edith and Harry James Warwick. He was the grandson of the late Alderman William Barford of Peterborough and of the late James Warwick of Thorpe Tower. He was educated at The King's School in Peterborough (on whose War Memorials he is commemorated) and at Gresham's School in Holt. He was commissioned in the 5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment on 3/11/1910, and promoted to Lieutenant in 1913. He transferred to the Hunts Cyclists in Spring 1914, and was promoted to Captain on 31/8/1914. In August 1916 he was sent at his own request to France, where he was attached to the Bucks Battalion of the Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry. He was commanding A Company when he was killed by a gas shell on 10/3/1917.
De Ruvigny omits the fact that James Warwick's promotion to Major with effect from 13/3/1917 was posthumously published in the London Gazette on 21/9/1917: Supplement 30297; Page 9815).
