Notes
The Roll lists his address as 'Late of Minster Precincts'. It misspells his surname as Thicknese; it was actually Thicknesse.
(CWGC records that Lieutenant Colonel John Audley Thicknesse died aged 46 on 1/7/1916 Commanding the 1st Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry, and is buried in grave I.H.15 at Sucrerie Military Cemetery at Colincamps, France. They record him as a native of Middleton Cheney, the son of the Right Reverend Dr F.H. Thicknesse D.D., late Bishop of Leicester, and his wife Anne Thicknesse; and as the husband of Phyllis Margaret Thicknesse of Bishop's Hull, near Taunton. They record that he also served on the North-West Frontier of India and in the South African War. When John married Phyllis Margaret Woodcock in Cuckfield parish church on 38/9/1897, his father was recorded in the Register Francis Henry Thicknesse, Bishop of Leicester. On the 1911 Census Francis was staying in the Minster Precincts of Peterborough Cathedral, of which he was a Residentiary Canon; his son John did not himself live in the Precincts).
