Notes
The Roll lists his address as 7 Trinity Street, and states he was serving as Private 700287 in the Labour Corps when he went missing in September 1919. It misrecords his surname as Steward (it was actually Stewart), and falsely implies that he died.

(The man who was serving as a Private 700287 in the Labour Corps in 1919 was Alexander Stewart, whose Army service file records as having been born in 1873 in Pewsey, Wiltshire. He was living at 11 Airton Street in Stockton on Tees, working as a builder's labourer, when he was attested in May 1919. He served in France in the 18th Labour Corps (Graves Exhumation unit) from 19/6/1919. While in France, he went absent without leave on 28/9/1919, and was apprehended by the Military Police at Lille the following day. He returned to the UK on 17/4/1920, and was discharged from the Army on 26/4/1920.
Whilst Alfred Stewart's Army file does not record any address in Peterborough, his rank, Regiment and regimental number all match the Roll's entry for him, as does the fact that he went 'missing' in France in September 1919. Evidently, his inclusion on the Roll of fatal casualties arose from the mistaken belief that he had died).
