Notes
The Roll lists his address as "Late of Lincoln Road East". It records his rank as Lieutenant, which differs from official records.
(CWGC records that Second Lieutenant Victor Sidney Smith died aged 19 on 6/10/1917 serving in 113th Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps and 44th Brigade Royal Field Artillery, and is buried in grave D.47 of Deir el Belah War Cemetery in Israel and Palestine. They record him as the son of Bessie and Sidney Thomas Smith of Peterborough. On the 1911 census Victor was living with his widowed father at 62 Lincoln Road East, Peterborough. On 10/11/1917 the Peterborough Advertiser referred to Victor as a Second Lieutenant when they quoted from a letter his sister had received regarding his death: Lieutenant E J Gorst had written to inform her that Victor had been killed when the engine of his aircraft cut out at 500 feet, causing it to crash).
