(CWGC records that Private Ernest Samuel Shaw, regimental number 202996, died aged 36 on 23/7/1918 serving in 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, and is now buried in grave V.D.11 Valenciennes (St Roch) Communal Cemetery in France, having been reinterred after the War. They record him as the husband of Martha Ann Shaw of 38 Crawthorne Road, Peterborough. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that he died as a Prisoner of War at Gustrow, and that his widow Martha Ann was his legatee. Ernest Samuel Shaw's birth was registered in Peterborough District in 1882. His baptism on 30/7/1882 as the son of Jane and Edward Hicks Shaw was recorded in the registers at St Mary's Church in Peterborough. His marriage to Martha Ann Drewery in 1907 was registered in Peterborough. On the 1911 census he was living with his wife Martha and their son at 38 St Mary's Terrace, Crawthorne Road, Peterborough.
