Notes
The Roll lists his address as 25 Swan's Place. It wrongly states that he died of wounds on an unspecified day in April 1917.

(CWGC accurately records that Private T.W. Scotney died on 4/2/1917 serving in the 7th Battalion of The Buffs (East Kent Regiment), and is buried in grave XIII.F.3 at Cologne Southern Cemetery in Germany. However, their Register and accompanying documents, plus his headstone, all currently misrecord his regimental number as 18667, instead of the correct number 18867. [N.B. Army and Red Cross documents verify that Thomas William Scotney died on 4/2/1917, and that his regimental number was G/18867; these documents have therefore now been submitted to CWGC, asking them to amend their records].
Thomas William Scotney's birth was registered in Peterborough District in 1883. He was baptised at St Mary's Church in Peterborough on 1/7/1883 as the son of Ann and William Holy Scotney of Bedford Street, Peterborough. On the 1891 census Thomas was living with his parents in Princes Street, Peterborough. On the 1901 census he was living with them in Princes Street, but the census enumerator mistakenly recorded him as "James W Scotney". Thomas William Scotney's marriage to Ethel Alice Ward was recorded in the Peterborough District in 1908. On the 1911 census Thomas, his wife Ethel and their 2 children were living at 26 Pipe Lane, Peterborough; his widowed father was also in the household.
Soldiers Died in the Great War records that Thomas William Scotney was living in Peterborough when he enlisted in the 7th Battalion East Kent Regiment under regimental number G/18867. He was recorded under that regimental number on the Medal Rolls, and also on the Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, which recorded that Thomas was "officially accepted" as having died on 9/3/1917, and that his widow Ethel was his legatee.
The International Red Cross' Prisoners of the First World War archive records that during the War they received an enquiry regarding the whereabouts of Private Thomas William Scotney of the 7th Battalion East Kent Regiment, regimental number 18867. Their documents record that Thomas had been born on 10/5/1883 in Peterborough, and his next of kin was his wife Ethel Scotney of 25 Swan's Place, Peterborough. The Red Cross established that Thomas had been taken Prisoner of War at Miraumont on 18/11/1916. On the Totenliste dated 9/3/1917 (PA 8976) compiled by the German authorities, Thomas' date of birth was recorded as 10/5/1883. The Totenliste dated 15/1/1919 (ref PA 42502) records that Thomas died on 4/2/1917).
