Notes
The Roll lists his address as 147 New England. It misrecords his surname as "Quincy" (it was actually Quincey), and lists his rank as Private, which differs from official records.
(CWGC records that Lance Corporal Ernest William Quincey, regimental number 9817, died aged 19 on 18/8/1916 while serving in the 1st Battalion of the Northamptonshire Regiment, and is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial in France. They record him as the son of William and Harriet Quincey of 147 New England, Peterborough. On the 1911 census Ernest had been living with his parents William and Harriet at 147 GN Cottages, New England, Peterborough; he was recorded as aged 13 and was stated to have been born in Wakerley, Northamptonshire. His birth was registered in Uppingham District in 1897; his baptism as the son William and Harriet was recorded on 10/10/1897 in the Baptism registers of Wakerley Church. Soldiers Died in the Great War inaccurately recorded Ernest's place of birth as Huntingdon. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that his mother Harriet was his legatee. The Medal Rolls record that Ernest went to France on 12/11/1914 as a Private in the 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, under which his 1914 Star medal was issued; his British and Victory medals were issued as a Lance Corporal. When his death was announced in the Peterborough Advertiser on 30/9/1916, he was reported to be the only son of Mr & Mrs Quincey of 147 New England).
