Notes
The Roll lists his address as 20 Hampden Road. It mistakenly recorded his forenames as "James Laude", and that he was killed in action on 9/3/1917; his name was actually James Claude Parbles, and he died in Boulogne Hospital on 8/3/1917.
(CWGC records that Private James Claude Parbles, regimental number 16306, died aged 31 on 8/3/1917 serving in the 2nd Battalion of the Northamptonshire Regiment, and is buried in grave VIII.A.195 at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery in France. They record him as the son of James and Alice Parbles of 8 Star Road, Peterborough. James Claude Parbles' birth was registered in St Ives District in 1886. On the 1891 census he was recorded as "Claud", living with his parents James and Alice Parbles at Hamerton in Huntingdonshire; his place of birth was given as Broughton, Huntingdonshire. On the 1901 census he was living with his parents at Flag Fen in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire. On the 1911 census he was recorded as Claude, living with his parents at Horsey Bar, Farcet, Peterborough. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects recorded that James Claude Parbles died on 7/3/1917 at No 13 General Hospital in Boulogne; his father James was his legatee. Soldiers Died in the Great War likewise recorded that he died (of wounds) on 7/3/1917, as did the Medal Rolls, which indicated that he had first been sent to France on 6/3/1915. However, the death certificate of Private James Parbles, regimental number 16306, records that he died of wounds in Boulogne, aged 30, on 8/3/1917, which was therefore his official date of death. The date held by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and inscribed on his headstone is therefore accurate).
