Notes
The Roll lists his address as 29 Duke Street, and states he was entitled to the 1914-1915 Star medal. (The Roll of Honour also recorded his brother Joseph, who died in 1915). It wrongly lists his regimental number as 14461.
(CWGC records that Corporal Robert Oxby, regimental number 14462, died aged 38 on 3/7/1916 serving in A Company of the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, and is commemorated on Face 1C of Thiepval Memorial in France. They record him as the son Robert and Edith Oxby of Dower House, Canwick, Lincoln and the husband of Agnes Daisy Ibbot (formerly Oxby) of Manor Farm, High Street, Old Fletton, Peterborough. Although CWGC lists Robert's mother's name as Edith, he was actually the son of Robert and Susan Oxby. The WW1 Medal Rolls for the Lincolnshire Regiment record only one Robert Oxby. Soldiers Died in the Great War records that he was born at Heighington in Lincolnshire, and was living in Fletton when he enlisted in Peterborough. Robert Oxby's birth was registered in Lincoln District in 1877. On the 1881 census he was living with his parents Robert and Susan in Heighington, which was stated to be his place of birth. His father died in 1890. On the 1891 census Robert was living with his widowed mother Susan at 1 School Lane, Canwick. His mother died a few weeks later. Robert Oxby's marriage to Agnes Daisy Rowles was registered in Peterborough District in 1906. On the 1911 census Agnes and their daughter were staying in the home of her parents, George and Sarah Rowles, at 29 Duke Street, Old Fletton, Peterborough; Robert was not in the household on that census. On 14/8/1915 the Lincolnshire Chronicle printed Robert Oxby's photograph, stating he was serving in the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, reporting that he had been in Canada before the War, but had immediately returned to the UK and "rejoined his regiment, in which he had previously served many years". Following Robert's death, his widow Agnes Daisy married William J Ibbot in 1920; their marriage was registered in the Peterborough District).
