Notes
The Roll lists his address as 23 Wellington Street. It wrongly recorded him as "M F Osbourne". His name was actually Jabez James Osborne; it was his wife who had the initials M.F.
(CWGC records that Jabez James Osborne, regimental number 51422, died aged 36 on 9/4/1917 serving in the 13th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, and is buried in grave C.11 at Houdain Lane Cemetery in Tilloy les Mofflaines, France. They record him as the son of Mr & Mrs Osborne of Ramsey and the husband of Mrs Bratby (formerly Osborne) of 23 Wellington Street, Peterborough. His birth was registered as Jabez James Osborne in the Peterborough District in 1881. On the 1891 census he was living with his parents Ruth and James Atkins Osborne at Upwood, Huntingdonshire; his place of birth was given as Holme. The marriage of "Jabez James Osborn" to Margaret Frances Rippon was registered in Peterborough District in 1907. On the 1911 census "James Osborn", his wife Margaret and their son were living at Chesterton Lodge, Chesterton near Peterborough. Soldiers Died in the Great War records him as "Jabez James Osborn", stating that he was a native of Holme who enlisted at Huntingdon, and that he had formerly served in the Royal Fusiliers under regimental number 11858. The Medal Rolls likewise record his surname as "Osborn", as do the Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, which state that his widow Margaret was his legatee. The marriage of his widow "Margaret F Osborne" to Ernest G Bratby was registered in the Peterborough District in 1920).
