Notes
The Roll of Honour mistakenly includes this entry for "Walter Sidney Mears", whose address it lists as 359 Gladstone Street. The entry is actually a duplication, as man to whom it alludes is also listed on the Roll under his true surname of "Freeman".
(Private Walter Sidney Freeman, regimental number 59757, who died 19/12/1918, had been raised by George Robert Mears & Mary Ann nee Freeman, with whom he was living on the 1901 and 1911 census; in 1901 he was described as George Mears' nephew, Walter Freeman; in 1911 he was described as the couple's adopted son, Walter Sidney Freeman. His birth had been registered as "Walter Sidney Freeman" in Peterborough in 1898, which is the name under which he enlisted. CWGC's record of him describes him as the "foster son of Mary Ann Mears". For further details, see our Names record for "Walter Sidney Freeman").
As the Roll mistakenly included two entries for this man, under different surnames, our 'transcript' of it needs to do likewise, hence our two Names records for him.
