Notes
The Roll lists his address as 23 Westgate, and that he was entitled to the 1914 Star Medal. (The Roll also included his brother Harold, who died in WW1). The Roll lists him as a Lieutenant, which differs from official records.
(CWGC records that Second Lieutenant Herbert Martin died aged 24 on 27/5/1915 serving in 80th Battery of the Royal Field Artillery, and is buried in grave I.E.155 at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension in France. They record him as the son of Henry and Mary Martin of 23 Westgate, Peterborough. He was likewise recorded as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects and in Soldiers Died in the Great War).
