The Roll lists his address as 25 Albert Place, and that he was entitled to the 1914 Star medal. It wrongly states that he died on 19/9/1914.

(CWGC records that Private J Manning, regimental number 9527, died on 9/9/1914 serving in 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, and is now buried in grave VI.A.56 at Vailly British Cemetery in France, having been exhumed from Courchamps Churchyard on 15/6/1938 and reinterred. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects likewise record that James died on 9/9/1914 at Courchamps, and list his father John Moses Manning as his legatee. On the 1901 census James had been aged 8, living with his father Moses at 1 Bains Yard, Wood Street in Peterborough).
