Notes
The Roll lists his address as Burton Street. It misrecords his date of death as 8/6/1918 (he actually died on 13/6/1918), and mistakenly implies that his death arose from his military service.

(Harold Tinsley Kite was born in 1890 in Basford District, Nottinghamshire, the son of Robert & Alice Kite. His Army pension file records that when he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers as a Private on 20/7/1908 he was already serving in the 7th Battalion Rifle Brigade; his regimental number was 2290. Harold was posted to India with the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers on 1/12/1909; he returned to England on 23/12/1914, and disembarked in France on 16/1/1915. He was hospitalised for frostbitten feet on 20/2/1915, and was returned to England on 25/2/1915. The Army doctor wrote in the pension file that Harold had informed him he had been injured when his trench was blown in, and he was struck on the head with a rifle. He was an inpatient at Springfield War Hospital in Tooting from 1/7/1915 to 2/11/1915, suffering from neurasthenia. An Army Medical Board held on 19/10/1915 decided that Harold was unfit for further military service, and he was honourably discharged on 6/12/1915 due to neurasthenia that was the "result of active service"; he held the rank of Lance Corporal at the time he was discharged. Harold married Agnes A J Clarke in Greenwich District in 1916. Harold died on 13/6/1918 at Peterborough Infirmary. His death certificate records that he died from a pelvic abscess, from which he had been suffering for 14 days, and intestinal obstruction of 5 days' duration. After his funeral at St Mary's Church, he was buried in Broadway Cemetery in Peterborough with full military honours. In the report of his death printed in the Peterborough Advertiser on 22/6/1918, Harold was stated to have suffered ill-health since his discharge from the Army).
In 2015 I submitted relevant documents to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, asking if Harold was suitable to be added to their casualty registers. The subsequent adjudication of The National Army Museum (reference WGA 496) was that Harold does not qualify for commemoration by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, as the causes of death recorded on his death certificate were unrelated to the neurasthenia for which he had been discharged from the Army. There is therefore insufficient evidence to prove that his death was caused by, or related to, his Army service. JK
