Notes
The Roll included "G Hodson", whose address it recorded as 504 Gladstone Street, and who it stated was killed in action on 30/10/1917 as a Lance Corporal in the Royal Fusiliers. However, no official records exist of any "G Hodson" of that address being killed in WW1.
CWGC has no record of any serviceman named Hodson of any Regiment who died on 30/10/1917. On the 1911 census, 504 Gladstone Street in Peterborough had been the abode of Henry Hodson, aged 32, who was living there with his wife and children. He had been born in Shropshire in 1878, the son of Enoch and Elizabeth Hodson, with whom he had appeared on earlier census. He had 5 brothers, only one of whom, Bert Hodson, died in WW1; the latter enlisted in Peterborough as 'Bert Hodson', and he was recorded as "Sidney Bert Hodson" on Peterborough's Roll of Honour under his brother Henry's address of 504 Gladstone Street. None of their other brothers died in WW1.
(CWGC records that Private George William Hudson, regimental number 26527, died on 30/10/1917 serving in the 7th Battalion Royal Fusiliers. They record him as the son of Mr & Mrs William Hudson of Towngate, Market Deeping near Peterborough. As his death was reported in local newspapers, it appears the similar surnames may have led to the erroneous entry on the Peterborough Roll of Honour re the death of a "G Hodson" on 30/10/1917 in the Royal Fusiliers, wrongly linked to the address in Gladstone Street).
