Notes
The Roll lists his address as Deacon's Street. It correctly records him as 'Willie Roy Fountain', as which his birth was registered in Stamford in 1891, and as which he appeared on census. However, he evidently served in the Army as "William Roy Fountain", as that is the name on all his surviving military records, and by CWGC.
(CWGC records that Gunner William Roy Fountain, regimental number 184645, died aged 27 on 1/8/1918 while serving in 410th Battery, 96th Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery. He is buried in grave II.A.2 of Godewaersvelde British Cemetery in France. They record him as the son of Thomas Roy and Elizabeth Fountain of 1 Emily Street, Stamford, Lincolnshire).
