(CWGC's online database records that 2nd Corporal W. Fogarty, regimental number WR/175415, died aged 21 on 11/11/1918 while serving in the 3rd Light Railway Operating Company of the Royal Engineers.; their Graves Registration Form, however, indicates that he was actually in 32 Light Railway Operating Company. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects state that William Fogarty was serving in 32 Light Operating Company when he was accidentally killed on 11/11/1918, and that his father Edward was his legatee. His birth had been registered in Peterborough District in 1897 as 'William Fogarty', as which he had been baptised on 12/9/1897 at St Mary's Church in Peterborough as the son of Edward and Elizabeth. He had been living with his parents at 53 Eastgate in Peterborough on the 1911 census. The Medal Rolls record that William had served in the Royal Field Artillery under regimental number 895759 before joining the Royal Engineers under regimental number 229128, which later changed to WR/175415. When his death was announced on 7/12/1918 in the Peterborough Advertiser, a letter from his Chaplain was quoted as stating that William had been accidentally killed by the derailing of an engine on which he was working, and that he had died instantly).
