(CWGC records that Lance Corporal William Dolby, regimental number 3/10918, died aged 39 on 9/5/1915 while serving in the 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, and is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial in France. They record him as the son of Thomas & Hannah Dolby of West Street, Helpston, Peterborough, and the husband of Frances E Dolby of 158 Clarence Road, Peterborough. [In 1923 Rogers Street in Peterborough was officially renamed Clarence Road]. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects also recorded him as William Dolby, as did Soldiers Died in the Great War, which stated he was a native of Helpston. Both his birth and his baptism at Helpston were recorded as William Dolby, and he appeared as such on all census returns).
