On 20/10/1917 the Peterborough Advertiser reported Percy's death, quoting a letter of sympathy his mother had received from his friend and comrade, Private A. Finch, who had informed her that, after Percy had been killed by shrapnel at Mount Sorrel, he had been "buried close to where he fell", adding that "A wooden cross has been erected over his grave". Mount/Mont Sorrel was in the Ypres Salient).
