(CWGC records that Corporal Harold Bemrose DCM of the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, regimental number 9388, died aged 24 on 13/4/1918, and is buried in grave XIV.F.12 at Nine Elms British Cemetery in Belgium; they record him as the son of Mrs M A Pask of Peterborough. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that he died of wounds on 13/4/1918 at No 3 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, and that his mother, Mary Pask, was his legatee. De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour states that Harold was born on 21/7/1893, the son of the late John Bemrose and Mary Ann nee Wilcock (who had later married George Pask, with whom she was living at 4 River Lane, Peterborough in 1918); that he had been educated at the Boys' Central School in Peterborough, enlisted in March 1912, served in France and Flanders from August 1914, and died at No 3 Australian Casualty Clearing Station on 13/4/1918 from wounds he had received that day at Wytschaete near Kemmel. On 4/3/1918 the London Gazette had published the award of his Distinguished Conduct Medal: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of a party of 20 men. Although isolated, he consolidated a shell-hole position and held it all day. At nightfall he established a connection with posts on either flank and volunteered to attack a machine gun which was causing trouble").
