Notes
The Roll lists his address as "Newborough Road, Werrington". It wrongly records his surname as "Barrett"; it was actually Barnett.
(CWGC records that Sapper W. Barnett, regimental number 170369, was serving in 126th Field Company of the Royal Engineers when he died 22/3/1918; he is commemorated on Pozieres Memorial in France. Soldiers Died in the Great War also records him as Sapper W Barnett. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects records him as Walter Barnett, stating that his widow Sarah was his legatee. He is recorded as Walter Barnett on the Royal Engineers' Medal Rolls, which record that he had formerly served as a Private in the Northumberland Fusiliers under regimental number 57434. His birth in Werrington was registered as Walter Barnett in 1887).
