(CWGC records that Private T Askew, regimental number 17194, died on 27/9/1915 serving in 7th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment; he is now buried in grave VIII.J.18 at Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery at Souchet in France, having been reinterred. The Army registers of Soldiers' Effects listed Thomas Askew's next of kin as his mother, Beatrice Johnson. His birth was registered in Peterborough in 1896 as "Tom Simmons Askew", which was therefore his legal name; he was baptised as "Thomas Simmons Askew", son of (spinster) Beatrice Askew, at Peterborough St John's Church on 26/2/1896. Beatrice Askew's marriage to William Johnson was registered in Peterborough in 1899).
